NOTICE OF RESUMING DISCONNECTION
The period of the COVID-19 pandemic has been a trying time for the people in our community
and those across our country. Benton Electric System understands that many of our customers
experienced hardship as a result of the pandemic. We have worked with hundreds of our
customers to find public assistance. We also encouraged customers to pay whatever they could
to avoid large balances later. Most importantly, we offered some relief by temporarily
suspending disconnections due to nonpayment of electric utility bills. Please be aware that the
temporary suspension of disconnections DID NOT relieve customers from their obligations for
payment of services received during the past seven months. It is now prudent for Benton
Electric System to begin collection of all past due payments in order to keep the system running
as necessary for our community. Any accounts still past due once disconnections resume, will
be subject to disconnection. We urge you to check your account and formulate a plan to pay any
delinquent balances.
Please allow this written public notice to serve as notification by Benton Electric System to its
customers that we, along with other Kentucky electric utilities, will be resuming disconnections
for unpaid electric bills effective October 30, 2020. We ask that anyone who feels they will have
difficulty paying their bill to call our office at 270-527-3666 and speak to customer service to set
up a plan before disconnects resume. For additional information or to access our online payment
